The Olmec Maize God

article image placeholderUploaded by @enwells01
One of the most important of the OMEC sculptures of the Mazegod is San Martin Bahatin Monument One. This carving shows a king dressed as the Mazegod and wearing several depictions of the Mazegod, such as his headdress, recognizable by the downturned mouth, squinted eyes, and cleft forehead that are almost always seen in OMEC depictions of the Mazegod. The king is shown raising a rod with one end split into four sections

His name was Mr. Anstad, and he was this lovely, lovely man around the age of, I think, 82 when I had him. He came out of retirement just to teach our apart history class. And, I mean, his love for classic, you know, art and architecture and opera, it was really palpable. And being around him, his love for these things was infectious. And everybody in the class just was bit by the art bug

Thank you so much for your kind words. I actually had a really similar experience with AP art History. My teacher was named Mr. Oram. He was a fantastic teacher and a very funny guy. So people would take art history just to have him as a teacher and then find out that they loved it. That's what happened to me
