Growing Up in a Small Town

article image placeholderUploaded by @dylanjamesolive
I mean, I'm not a country boy, but I wouldn't say I'm a city boy either. But I didn't really have a desire to go hunting, I've gone fishing, but things like that. But that wasn't why I wanted to get out in middle school. My eyes were just suddenly opened to the values of Callahan. And I was in 8th grade during the 2016 presidential election. And going into it, I didn't really care. Republican, Democrat, whatever

A little about my experience growing up in a small town and how to manage wanting to get out… #smalltown

It's something that's important to hear other people say because you can feel so alone and it is a very lonely feeling inherently. So yeah, I really enjoyed listening to this. I'm going to go listen to part two

Hey, Dylan, as someone else who grew up in a small town, I want you to know that your feelings and your experiences are so valid and your experience with that is so relatable. Because for me, I grew up in a town that idealized certain things. Every girl wanted to be the strawberry queen, every I wanted to grow up to be rich, involved in the city government, involved in the strawberry festival or strawberry farming

Emma, it was so nice hearing a little bit about your experience in Plant City. And I could not agree with you more on what you said about just families and the sort of culture around living in a certain family and how that if you have a certain name, it can really get you can really get you somewhere where not even get you somewhere. It's just like you're looked at differently

So I definitely really like that, because a lot of people are conforming nowadays in terms of who they are, because people in their family or people around them in their town don't really understand or get it or just disagree with whatever it is and they feel weird about it and so they don't want to fully be themselves. So I definitely think that's a common struggle, even just anywhere, honestly, not just small town, I mean, any environment
