So that's what I'm talking about when I'm saying her parents are really interested in her concentrating on her studies, because she was so brilliant, but her mind and her heart and her psychology was so enveloped in the survivorship and navigating the hatred that she was witnessing. So my grandparents poured all they had into my mother and their finances, their time, their energy, and they had, like, seven other girls that they had to share kind of what's left

Actually, unlike your childhood, I consistently felt judged, like I had defend to defend my decisions, my opinions. And so I grew up at times questioning myself, questioning my voice, at times withholding my opinion at home anyway, so that I wouldn't have to justify my thinking or defend myself. I would say that my mom didn't have quite as much of a positive influence on me and my evolution into who I am as my dad did
