Are Award Shows Still Important?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Dominique
It seems like, yes, still millions of people watch them, but it feels like every year we hear about a new record low for each award show. It leaves me wondering, do award shows still matter? I think they do to the people that win them, obviously. But people who are watching it at home, unless you care about a singer or an actress who wins an award, I don't think anybody else cares

They need to end the VMA’s!

Hey, that's a really interesting question. And I remember growing up watching the VMAs. And apart from the live performances, I think since the year 2012 or so, I haven't watched any show. I haven't seen any of the VMAs, so I think it makes sense. I think the quality has deteriorated and it makes sense to do away with it because it used to be a place where you would see all of your favorite celebrities coming together and performing some of your favorite songs live

Yes, I agree. But I guess the awards still matter to the artists who receive them, and they're very proud of their work. And someone needs to be they need to be recognized by some way. Right. So I think that's why it's still like. And of course, there is a turnout of people who are watching because they do happen every year. That means they're making some sort of profit

But apart from that, as time progresses, people care less and less about what happens during these awards, like before they had a lot of power. Take the Taylor Swift, Kanye West thing where she got interrupted during her award speech. That was a pretty iconic pop culture moment. But we don't see those arising anymore
