A Story About Paint and The Image Burning In Your Mind

article image placeholderUploaded by @DerekPierre
The dilemma of paint comes in the form of Catherine and Ambrosia, the former being a previous love interest who endlessly inspired Carl, while the latter being his replacement at the local PBS who not only shares tv time but eventually starts outperforming Carl with riskier art, a young energy and enthusiasm for the opportunities presented. As we progress, we learn that Carl has been blocked creatively since Catherine had an affair with a local delivery driver in the back of his truck

He does that, and eventually his barn burns down. People think he's dead, and his art becomes so valuable, and all the shit that people threw away now is making everybody in his life infinitely richer. And he kind of gets to go off in secret and live in the woods. I guess I'm at the point of my life where I'm trying to get over my mansfield and figure out what the hell that thing is that's holding me back from just being the greatest version of myself

You know, Derek, honestly, I think that this is a huge question for not just creatives, but for men, because their work is so tied up into their identity, their accomplishments. Not all of men, but a lot of men my age, Generation X, who I know it's just your work, your accomplishments, whether or not you are a good provider for your family, your children standing by you

And I think that movie, like, it touched me for that reason where it was, you know, it was somebody who, by their measure, actually was pretty successful and had blocked themselves up and on the other end of that had no idea, like, what was actually still left for them. So I get really inspired by things like that
