Cigarettes. She rolls new cigarettes from the discards she collects, making the lonely trek each morning to sell them on the city streets. Men never understand, she tells me, what women always have to sacrifice. The bitter taste of betrayal lingers in the air like the acrid scent of old cigarettes

Hey, janice. It's Stephen. Thank you for writing this one and reading it. Happy to listen to it. It's definitely your signature style. I'm reminded of maybe like a black and white film or a biography filmed in black and white, maybe. You always leave me with a lot to think about after I listen to your poetry. So thank you very much. bye
And you can see all of the facets of it, and it's amazing because it just conveys everything that it wants to convey without any pretense. So I love that. I appreciate this so much. Thank you

So potent, so simple, so vivid, it's so atmospheric at the same time. All that storytelling with that quip at the end. For a short poem, this sure does link anger. I don't know how you do it. This paints such a vivid picture in my mind. And like Stephen said, it is almost like a movie. It's like a scene from a movie. Wonderful jealous

And, oh, does it linger. I loved it. Just like everyone else. You painted a picture that was beautiful and just makes your mind and your imagination run a little wild

Hey, Stephen. Thank you for coming and listening and taking the time to leave a reply. It's really kind of interesting to me that you said that you felt like it was a black and white film or biography or something kind of stark like that, because this is actually from, like, a little slice of my mother's life, a little conversation she had with me. So, yes, I found that quite interesting that you got that from that

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to come by and listen to this and to take the time to reply. I truly appreciate that. Yeah, it's a short little piece, but if you read between the lines, it has a lot to say. But thank you again for coming by and responding. I like to hear what other people get from what I write, so I appreciate you

Adenike like I told Steven, this piece is actually from an actual conversation I had with my mother. So this is like a snapshot from her life. So I found it interesting that you both commented on it seeming like a scene from a movie, I guess because it's a scene from her life. Thank you for coming by

Thank you, Blair, for taking the time to come by and listen and reply to this thread. I am always interested to hear something that I have to say, maybe resonates. I worry a little bit with my short poetry, but I'm glad you found something in it that struck maybe accord with you. I look forward to hearing more from you
