College Sports Realignment Spells Death for the Pac-12

article image placeholderUploaded by @cwt302
And the Rose Bowl, the Big Ten and the Pac Twelve were adamant that whatever new shape the playoff took, the Rose Bowl had to retain its 02:00 p.m. Pacific kickoff on New Year's Day. Now, there's no telling who, if anyone, will stand up for that bit of tradition after all, since the 2000 season, 15 Rose Bowls have been a traditional Big Ten Pac Twelve, or Pac Ten matchup. And of those ten are now Big Ten conference games

The latest round of realignment futher alters the landscape and kills the Pac-12 as we know it. #80mins

So I'm a fan of both football teams. Neither football team has won a Big Ten championship since the 60s, since before I was born, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. If it hasn't happened in the last 50 to 60 years, 60 years adding Washington, Oregon, UCLA and USC to a conference, how on earth is it going to happen now? What should I look forward to as an Indiana or a Minnesota football fan?

If the end result of realignment is a product that fewer people care about, then the revenue that they so vigorously sought won't be there. I've heard it speculated that if college football bubble that the college football bubble may very well be about to burst, and we might just be on our way there. There's one last interesting point I want to make as college sports consolidate, and it may feel like a bit of a stretch, but I think we've seen it some already

Curtis, you are absolutely reading the tea leaves correctly on both counts here. And one is you've seen this for a number of years and you're very observant to notice the path in which these things go, especially when money and TV is involved. Well, these networks have just signed huge contracts. We're over $10 billion in contracts here. And these TV networks I think, will eventually become the new conferences. I think they will be more, more TV networks more than conferences themselves

For travel sake, it's going to be a nightmare, especially with this new Big Ten, with a quarter of the Pac Twelve schools. And I can only imagine University of Washington is going to hate having a trip to play Rutgers, going cross country to play Rutgers, and I'll be honest with you, that kind of matchup, whether it's football or basketball, that's not going to be appealing to me to watch. Yeah, well, I want to see Michigan play USC
