Penalty of a criminal past : Is there hope

article image placeholderUploaded by @chitchatwithkk
The same opportunity to the people who have not who don't have a criminal history, to those that do after ten plus years of being criminal activity free? Just want to take a poll and get your insight on it. And I'm going to give my insight. I truly feel that people who have done their time and have proven to have changed their lives should be given opportunity. We only have one life

Maybe they were with somebody and they just didn't want to tell on that person. So they end up doing time. There's a lot of different circumstances. But yes, we do need to do better with them

So you beat me to it. In other words, I was going to put up a swell titled when Is Your Past No Longer Your Present? But that's okay because it goes to show that we both see that there's a problem. This is a topic that it I'm very familiar with because I was incarcerated before, and I can easily turn this into a multi recording because there's a lot of insight that I can offer. But what I'm going to do is keep it short

I don't want this girl. This guy did strong arm robbery. This guy did B and E. How can I trust him with my little shop or whatever the case may be? It's always something. Then you have the companies that do do it for their own personal gain or their own personal tax break because a lot of companies do get that. But people just have to realize that sometimes you have to look past what a person did in the past and give that person a shiny chance

So I think that that sometimes drives, like former criminals to go back to criminal activity, because some of them actually probably do want to go back to prison, because in prison, I didn't have to worry about taking care of myself. Everything was taken care of for me by the state, so I didn't have to do that. Health care, everything was taken care of for me

Also, I have a friend who was working at McDonald's. She's several years younger than me, and she also struggled with getting better jobs because she had what's called a barrier crime. There's a certain list of crimes where you can't work in places like nursing homes. You can't work around children because of the nature of the crime itself. Not so much that you have a crime, but the nature of the crime

But if I can say yes, I personally have experience with this person, and they've worked for me, and they've done a good job, and that carries weight with it, right? Other people, other ones was like, I ain't working for that. I ain't working for that. I might as well go back to prison and work for pennies then

And so you just have to work your way up. Trust the process. Be a good steward. Show God you can steward what he's entrusting you with, and then he will add more to you and give more to you once he sees that you can steward what the little bit you do have. And so that's excellent advice that you give them. So thank you so much, SIS. This was great

Hi, Andrea. Hi, Tanya. I replied to the swell already. It's just that a lot of times when I reply to a swell, I'm usually Larie. I'm usually in a hurry. My background is usually noisy. So I just wanted to come back on really quickly and share a little bit more of my own experience, give some insight, especially after hearing you, Tanya. You were so spot on, and then you as well, Andrea

So I think that you were very fortunate to have the family because a lot of people don't a lot of people don't have family that supports it when they're in there and when they're out, they don't have family. So they feel very alone. And I commend you for staying focused. And then you say you're trying to help other people. People who not really don't want help

But, yeah, you're right. People should give people a chance. I don't think people should take advantage and use them and pay them less, because they do that too. But I think they should give people opportunity, because you never know who you might miss out on. Hold it on to that past

So a lot of people try to do it on their own, but doing it on your own is so much harder than allowing someone to come in and assist you. But there are programs out there outside of prison. As a matter of fact, a lot of people who exit prison are mandated to have a psychiatrist or do therapy. And a lot of people feel like they don't need it. But they do need it, especially when they're in there for years

Yeah. Hey, thanks again for responding. It sounds like your friend was very humble, like she was not thinking that anything was too good for her. And actually, she took the best of what situation had and made the best of it. Sorry that the dogs are barking in between, but, yes, she took the best of what she had, and she met a life with it. And kudos for her, because that shows how strongly determined she was

He had to work part time. He was in a warehouse. He wasn't getting paid much. And then he just kept trying and kept trying, kept trying. Now he has a really good job at a factory to where he's been there for a while, and sometimes he wants to give up and quit and we'll talk about it. And I'm like, okay, what are you doing this for? Who are you doing this for? What's your goal?

But having someone in your corner that can remind you and be very supportive is a great thing. And the world is very judgmental, very judgmental. But like I said before, some people just got caught doing what they were doing. And there's many people out there who are in this world still getting opportunities and can't be trusted as much as the ones that got caught

Hope

I really believe a lot of the work startups from within, just really knowing who you are, how to relearn, how to gain a true understanding of insight into your life, what brought you to prison, what got you involved in criminality crime. So I did a lot of that work. I took plenty of classes that target a lot of my characteristics that were unhealthy for me, especially in California, there's a certain guideline that each person has to go through in order to get out of prison

But in that little boy's mind, the one is now grown. He felt that his dad wasn't, and so he even himself wanted to be a better dad because his dad wasn't there. So he definitely tries that. And I'm sure his son wants to be a better dad when he has children, but it's all about ending the cycle and to continue doing things. And I would encourage him to continue having a relationship with his son whenever he wants to give up

Insight

People look down on you when you express those emotions. So you tuck those emotions, you leave them alone. And so I got a chance to really understand all four basic emotions and it really helped me, help me through the process. And I was able to find my freedom through that process. And I'm so grateful for where I'm at today. I can see the world today with new lenses and how I approach everything. And also, again, I understand human behavior
