Jerod Mayo is named the new head coach of the New England Patriots!

That'll be when his job actually starts. And I don't know anything about this guy. I know that he's been with the organization for a while. I know that he was there for a while when Bill was running the ship. So he's learned under Bill, which is comforting in some ways, but is also scary in others, depending on how you view the situation. But I don't want to pass too much judgment until I actually see him in action

So I've also read where Mayo was called Bill Jr. In his playing days because he spent so much time studying film and worked extremely hard outside of the game. And I think if you combine those two qualities of connecting with the younger athletes and still working hard, I think you might have something. However, it all comes down to figuring out that quarterback position, I don't know that they had it figured out this year

We had this comfort that we had the greatest coach of all time or one of, if not the, I mean, it's up for debate, but that's beside the point. We had a fantastic coach, regardless of your point of view, and we had one of, if not the greatest QB. That was a level of comfort that was just always there. But then Tom Brady left, so that was half of your comfort level gone

@Chief2 Patriot fans have every right to be somewhat nervous. #JerodMayo #BillBelichick

Congratulations to Gerard Mayo on his new gig with the New England Patriots. When I first heard the news that Gerard Mayo was going to be hired, I was thinking to myself whether or not the Patriots followed the Rooney rule because part of the Rooney rule states that you have to interview a candidate from outside of the organization. I guess they did, but it wasn't really talked about. Now they did interview a minority candidate, Drod Mayo himself. So that checks a box off the list

Hey, what's going on? Zach here. So I just wanted to give you a thought or two on what you shared. Thanks for replying. So I had to fact check with my dad, but apparently the head coaching job was written into Gerard Mayo's contract, so the Rooney rule did not need to happen. It kind of made it null and void. If it's written into that person's contract, you don't have to look elsewhere. So that was

@Chief2 Thank you for the clarification.

This team basically was interviewing this coaching candidate while he was coaching a playoff team. Although this candidate ended up getting the head coaching job he wasn't very prepared for the interview based on what I heard the person was a bit overwhelmed by the whole interview process so that's one of the reasons why a change was made to how the interview process works as it pertains to new coaching hires. Again, thank you very much for clarifying the Rooney rule as it pertains to Gerard Mayo. Stay warm out there
