The Harp Of India
In vain silence has bounced the earth with a fatal chain. Neglected mutual and dissolute arto like ruined monument on desert plain. Oh, many a hand more voted for than mine. Once the harmonious course to sweeteners get and many a birth for them did fame. A twin of clever steel blooming on the minstrel's grave. Those hands are cold but if the nose divine may be by mortal weakened once again half of my country let me strike the strain the port stitcher

In the first section, the poet laminates the loss of glorious past of India. And in second section, the poet hopes the glory will be back. Poet want to say in first section that because of British Empire no one will play the beautiful voice of Indian art and literature. Because now the art and literature are neglected and mute and the efforts of all poets are going in vain

Shirley and Keith and other poems of the writer includes the Fakir of Jangira to India, My Native Land, Song of the Hindustani ministrel and as far as the heart of India is concerned, the poem mourns India's loss of freedom to the British and the hope is it would regain the path to glory. The harp is simply a musical stranged instrument that Derozio uses to represent as India's loss of art and literature. The harp is left unplayed, possibly because its strings are broken
