Books with Non-Binary Characters

And so I recognize the importance and kind of the excitement to see these non binary characters represented so well in these stories. So I'm going to start this list. And if you come across books that also have non binary characters, please add to this conversation. I am just going to share kind of my overall feelings of the books without telling you too much so that you can go and get your hands on them and read them as well

Love & Other Disaster by Anita Kelly

Okay, I have to start with love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly. This was a Book of the Month pick for January and I just read it this week while I was at the beach and I can not handle how wonderful this story was. It is a romance based on a competition cooking show and it's just absolutely wonderful. I love the perspectives go between the two characters. One is a queer woman and the other is a nonbinary person

Outlawed by Anna North

I haven't started and finished a book in the same day for very long time. But that's exactly what I did yesterday when I read Outlawed by Anna North. It's an old west story that is super queer and full of feminist rage. It is based on 1894, which I did some Googling was after a huge outbreak of a worldwide pandemic. It was the Russian flu from what I found on Google

So missing this aspect, as well as missing the human relating aspects that I want to be a part of my hard thinky thinky Sci-Fi books. I'm putting my toe back into the fantasy realm, temporarily at least. And I do have a book waiting in the wings where the main character is a lesbian. But as far as as I know, there's no non binary characters in there, but I'm hoping to pop back in here and see what else is contributed, because we definitely need more

A book I can add to the list is a YA novel by Jeff Garvin titled "Symptoms of Being Human"

And from there, the novel starts and it's about Riley starting a new school. It's in high school for these characters. There's another one that well, it's not really it doesn't really have a nonbinary character. There's one teeny, teeny, tiny, like very minor, minor character. This is an LGBT novel. It's called a transcontinental affair, and it's like the lesbian romance. Yeah
