"Forced" to be nice.

And as someone who grew up working in retail, until I went into academia, there were rules. We had to greet the customer within 15 seconds of them walking in the store, which sometimes led to conflict. When you say, hey, how are you doing? And they're like, we're just looking. Every now and then I'd get snarky and say, I'm just saying hi. But what is wrong with there being training and rules when you work in customer service?

Customer is always right and this kind of thing. But if someone isn't naturally friendly or naturally thinking about that specific person who's come through the door and valuing them as a fellow human, then there have to be structures and rules, if you will, in place. I heard someone say once that laws are put into place when we haven't internalized morality and that could be a whole discussion in itself

When I talk about cold and just pointing fire, signatures are over there and just kind of like but the store is as big as an office and nobody else is in here. You can't help. So some of the chains have gotten it right, some of the franchises have gotten it right, and some of the smaller stores could really use the customer service training. So that's my thoughts on it. Thanks

But when you're in the business of people, you have to kind of put on that fake smile and that phony, friendly tone of voice, even though your mind is furthest away from that in that moment. So, yes, we are forced to be nice in retail. We have to be nice even when the people don't deserve it. We have to be nice even when our life outside of work is anything but nice. But yes, we are forced to be nice

I think I've provided example before. I was a general manager of a restaurant during the day, and I did dishes at another restaurant at night. I've always been about working hard, and that's why I'm scaling back at this point, this age. But, yeah, I agree with the statement of small town stores. Sometimes don't have it. I remember going into a bookstore once where the guy behind the counter didn't even look up

You. There is nothing wrong with being nice to others. I actually think it's a good thing. I think there's way too much negativity in the world. And if you work for a company and you're following company policy, and the policy is to be kind to the customer, that's exactly what you're doing there's. So nothing wrong with that. For those people that do find it offensive, it makes me wonder why
