Were accounts of Gen X childhoods real?

article image placeholderUploaded by @BKFOREMAN69
It's. Good Sunday, everyone. I'm kind of a social media person that I'm really enjoying the Gen X descriptions on TikTok because that is my generation. And what I'm really finding funny is the depictions of our childhood as a kid. And even as an early young adult, I thought my experiences were unique. The Joe Quan is drinking from the water hose and coming home before the street lights come on. Those are quite true

Thank you for this post about Gen X and what we were like, because what you described was exactly it. I had friends that got seriously injured doing daredevil stuff because that's what we did. We were built tough. We were a different generation of people. And you did, you got hurt and you helped your friend home if they couldn't bear weight on one leg or if they had a broken arm and the bone was sticking out. You ran and got someone if they couldn't move

We built meaningful friendships because we all hung out together, we spent time together. I'm still friends with people that I was friends with in kindergarten in first grade, and I'm 45 years old. And so when you spend time with people, you build much more meaningful relationships instead of some of the online relationships we make, where for a few months we're talking to this person. Next thing you know, this person is still on our friends list

They're not my children, so I can't really say anything, but I'm watching and it's very disturbing. Nobody is outside playing. This is what me and my friend would do, okay? Me and my best friend after the cartoons or whatever. And I'm not saying this is great. I'm just telling you the way it is

A couple of other things I was chatting with. Maybe this was exclusive to boys, but we would shoot each other with BB guns in the dead of summer. We'd have winter coats on, we'd have our plastic shop glasses on, and we would literally chase each other through the woods and shoot each other with BB guns. And the other activity we did I would love to recreate this for a movie or something, but any other way, it would be child abuse, probably

They do, but where we might have been, I guess we might have been nine or ten, maybe eight, I can't remember exactly, but it's still a thing. But it's much small, much younger kids. It's just like everything took a jump, a bump up, and they're more mature and they have more responsibilities. You know what?
