The power of obviousness (and good storytelling)

article image placeholderMake obvious choices with your Writing
And so every bit of the story you write has to build to that. And then when you give the resolution, make it so poetic that people absolutely don't care that it's a cliche. People don't care. It's obvious. People don't care. They saw this coming. They just enjoy the feelings and they recommend your thing and move on. Most commercial literature, most commercial movies and TV shows and things like that, have this going for them

And I was also thinking about when you mentioned intergenerational trauma, but something which is uncomplicated, where you don't have to dissect or deconstruct, but when you look at something like, I think what was it called? Everywhere all at once. Everywhere, everything all at once I forget what it was called, but it won the Oscars. I can't believe I forgot the title. But I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about

But it is the treatment which makes it different. And it is the treatment which can keep a reader engaged till the last episode or the last page. And that is where every writer differs. And that is where every writer has that playground to play around with things, to try new things and make a name or space for their own self. And what you said is just bang on. I believe every writer should understand this

Hello. Hey. Hi. Yes, thank you so much for that response. It was very clear, and that was great. It's given me a new way to look at these stories as well, and I think I'll probably have to pick up poetics as well, I guess, but yes, thank you so much

And that is why, as you rightfully say, we need to watch, listen, see, read everything, to be honest. Because no matter how crap you think something is, a lot of effort went into that crap as well. And while you in the face value of it all, don't see the value in any piece of content. The value is definitely there because someone thought of something
