Occasionally, parents tell their children what to do, and when their kids don't do it, they ask their kids, well, what do you want to do? Does it really matter what a four year old kid wants to do? Society sees adults telling children what to do as some form of disrespect

You. I absolutely agree with you. I have also been teaching for a long time and these days from last two years, we are feeling that children are not listening, they are not serious and they are very much diverted. So I agree that children should be focused and they should focus their mind on their academics, their studies, but they are very much diverted and they are not able to understand what is the requirement from them in that particular age

But again, there's a lot of things if a kid doesn't like something or another that's going on in the home, they might complain to an authority figure outside the home and get the parents in trouble, a lot of trouble. And that's another fear. And it's really unfortunate because I think we've gone from basically being almost completely permissive of all sorts of situations, including very abusive ones, to going in many ways too far in the other direction and
