"The second sex" by Simone de Beauvoir: A Book review

article image placeholderUploaded by @Ayus_01
The existential crisis that is discussed in the second section is the ongoing othering that women have experienced as a result of the institutions and socialization forces that were founded by men. The Bova's book The Other highlights the patriarchal system and questions patriarchy, arguing that one is not born a woman, but rather becomes one due to the social construction of gender identities. She also establishes her own conception of women, which is that they are socially far removed from men's dominant positions but do not differ significantly from men biologically

And even though Bovis text does have its own pitfalls, even though it, like you said, it has its own problematic bits, of course, undeniably. But I think this was definitely one of the pioneer texts of infamous theory, pioneering texts, in the sense that it was one of those first texts which were written from a feminist perspective. And that too, you know, basically, theoretically explaining stuff and not fiction
