Pride:: Is it ALWAYS a bad thing? πŸŽ™οΈπŸ€

article image placeholderUploaded by @Astroality
It was so deflating because I was so proud of myself and there just was like very negative feedback all around me from lots of different sources. Right? Or like later on in my working career years, when I was working in the corporate sector, I received a very large raise and it was very much due to me. Like, I had worked really hard, I had exceeded everyone's expectations, including my own

And, yeah, it's not about because everything I've done was all character defects. Mike trying to get better. So I'm looking at all the bad stuff, getting some acceptance with it, trying to do the spiritual opposite or whatever I'm doing, but very rarely do I look and say, you know what? I'm qualified. I go through all this pain. It's been rough for me, and I figure whatever the job that God got for me is going to be enormous

It. Thank you so much for the wisdom. I appreciate it so much. Like, truly, I value it and I appreciate that you just taught me something. You taught me, like, it's about relabeling it, right? Just because somebody else calls it pride doesn't mean that that's what it is. It can just simply be celebration. It can be happiness, it can be joy, it can be accomplishment, it can be success

And I am really proud of myself because there was a point in my life nobody believed in me. I have my master's degree in special education, I hold two teaching credentials, and I'm a licensed speech language pathology assistant. I kicked a**. It took me a long time. I've had a lot of challenges. And no, life isn't easy. I'm going to be going through another challenge next fall

So my upbringing, my childhood has been rather similar to yours. I wouldn't say entirely, but we do share a lot of the negatives and the social constructs. So being proud of your accomplishments wasn't, how do I say, openly encouraged. Your close family would sort of take pleasure and happiness in your achievements. But there was always this sense of, like, keep it hush hush. Don't make too much of noise around it. People are jealous

Like, if the corporate business person, like a man in the corporate world, if he was to ascend up the ladder of success, and he's proud of himself for moving up that corporate ladder and putting in that hard work, then some people may look at him and say, he's arrogant. He can't say, I'm proud of myself for ascending up the corporate ladder, because that will be looked at as arrogant

I had to come to that place of peace where it's like, I am not here to change anyone, to heal anyone, to make them see things differently. They're still here to learn their own lessons and have their own life experience. And I can't let someone else's blindness or coldness or whatever hold me back from living the best version of my life. So thanks again for your input. I appreciate it so much. I hope you're having a good night

They're not geared that way because they haven't taken the time to really get to know themselves. They haven't taken the time to heal. They haven't taken the time to change the way bad thing have always been done. And I'm just really proud of so many of us because we've broken through so many patterns and so many old belief systems, so many thought processes that just may have worked at one time, but they just don't work anymore. Right

Thank you so much for this cheerful and thoughtful reply. I always love your cheer. It literally brightens my day and it makes me feel so good. I really do appreciate you. And just in case no one's told you lately, you're a badass. And I'm really proud of all the things that you've accomplished, in spite of many odds that may have been what people would perceive stacked against you. You've done a lot of things, and of course you are beautiful

If you can't be proud when you accomplish something, what does the accomplishment do? What drives you to accomplish it? Of course. Be proud. Especially when you work hard for something. And when they want to rain on your parade on swell. Let us know, and we'll fill you full of all of the freaking awesomeness you can stand. Because, good Lord, no, ma'am. Be proud. Those people are stupid

And when you do, that's something that needs to be corrected. Again, the 44 instances of pride in the Bible. The connotations for each one is negative. There is nothing positive about pride. You have a good day. Hope to speak with you soon

And this word pride is a very deep word, it's a five letter word, but it got so much meaning to it because me being who I am, I see it from a mental and a spiritual perspective of the word pride. And one of the seven deadly sins is pride. But also listening to your story and how much you accomplish and how you was proud of yourself, there's nothing wrong with that at all

On the other hand, if you look around and you listen to different biblical lectures, sermons, instructions, so forth and so on, that word is very rarely used. Now, I'm going to say this. I am proud, very proud that you're raising four boys. Extremely proud. Okay. I thank god that you're able to do that. But on the other hand, the word pride doesn't need to be used at all in that context

There neither life, nor death, nor angel, nor principality, nor power, nor height, nor death, nor things present, nor things yet to come, nor any other creature shall be able to separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Now, I'm just coming off the top of the head with that. I may have missed a word or two. That's why I like God, don't miss words for me

So I just wanted to ask a question after listening to you. So you mean to tell me that getting accepted into a school or graduating or progressing in life, there is no feeling of accomplishment and being proud that you made it through a tough time or whatever the situation may be that is allowed at all by the standard in the Bible? I just want to make sure that I'm understanding that clearly

But that would be my theory. Is it's going to be the egotistical boasting that God doesn't want to see in us? Because then that gives all credit to us and not to God himself, but we can be proud of our accomplishments. This is all opinion, of course, and said with a loving heart, but I just thought I would include this just to kind of broaden some things, maybe some perspective. And I'm glad she's proud. I'm just going to say that

I've seen it. I've experienced it a lot, and it didn't feel like that to me. And that was never my intention. I wasn't asking for a parade or anything. I was just proud of myself for having done these things. So thank you for being one of the people that says, mike, there is a distinction. And it doesn't have to mean that I'm like an antichrist. It's. You are most welcome. And I love the fact that you use the other word, boastful. That's one of the words that needs to be replaced with pride as far as from a worldly perspective, because people can they can take that word pride and they're boasting in such a negative way that literally just makes that word pride so messed up. It makes us people of God. Mike a second guess or question. Is it okay to be proud of our accomplishments?

On Thanksgiving, on Christmas, whatever the case may be, and they say when you get older, you don't realize until you get older. And I try to do everything I can for now. I can see it now, Mike, if you start ringing bells and four boys come up in there, it's going to get handled. You don't got to do nothing, sit down with this point of finger. There was so much beautiful wisdom in this response. So thank you so much for taking the time to respond, because it's it's much needed for everyone, and I hope everyone listens to it. You said something so important right out the gate. You said we prioritize it in the wrong manner. And that is huge, because you are exactly right, and it's a perfect way to put it. It's perfect way to explain it
