They're literally running across the desert in sandals with really not much food or anything. The movie was pulled in 2001 from cable. It wasn't shown because the events of 911 and also the dvd sales were pulled by Sony because they didn't think it was appropriate. And in 1988, when it was made, the head of Columbia had stepped down and was replaced. And the film was shelved and got a very limited release in theater, so it wasn't seen by very many people
