Life Journal - Death is complicated - Funerals Why do we go?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Andrea_Speaks
That's the first I found out about it. To be around people who are going to say, oh, we got to keep in touch. We got to get together and then never reach out. Am I going for my uncle? Because he don't even know I'm there. What? What? Why do we go to funerals? What purpose does it serve to go to the funeral? Is it closure? But does the funeral really bring closure?

It. So going to the cemetery and watching them put him in the ground, does that bring closure? I mean, once you see him in the ground, once you see them lowering that coffin in the ground, you know he's not coming back. So is that going to bring closure? You know, why do we go to funerals? Is it so that we can mourn together for a little while and come together?

You. The reason people go to funerals is a very complicated answer because it depends on your perspective. I mean, there are a multitude of answers that can come to that. Some people go to funerals to mourn. Some people go to mourn together. Some people go to say goodbye. Some people go to funerals because it's a good time of reunion. You see people at funerals sometimes that you don't get to see normally, but I think it depends on your perspective

I know that some of the funerals that I've attended, they can turn into quite the circus and it becomes less about the deceased and more about the living. And at funerals, everybody's always like, oh, we're going to get together, we're going to start getting together, we're going to start spending more time together. Because you go to these gatherings and you see people that you haven't seen in so long and everybody misses everybody, or so they say
