What to do on my free time?

So this is a huge problem to me and a lot of people because whenever we find free time, immediately our go to is Instagram or Reels TikTok, all the social media where now our creativity is extremely low because we are just endlessly watching so much content. Maybe it's adding a lot of knowledge to us, but the creative part of the brain is completely shutting down. So I want to know what kind of ideas you have that whenever we find free time, how can we use it effectively?

You? Well, my goto is gardening. If I want some time away from the screen, well, that I usually also do. But especially on the days when I feel okay, my eyes need a real break from screens, and I take my dog out for a walk. Or I just sit and chat with family or friends. And chat could mean discussing anything under the sun. It could eventually be a pitching session also. So, yes, that's what I do

Also because of the phones that we have on our hands all the time we have lost a sense of situational awareness because often it happens that we are ignorant of whatever is happening around us in our surroundings, especially when we are in the public place. So maybe trying to just sit just by yourself and just watch the world go by around you

Hello. The coffee shop. Situational awareness, I think, is a good idea because the main reason why I started this small thread is to get rid of screen time. So just observing how people are reacting, what people are doing around us, and also trying to connect with them, if possible, I think that's a great way to spend time. And also, I find swell this app as a good way to spend time, actually

It? Yes, I think gardening is a great idea, but I'm thinking about the people who live in rented houses. Now, that's going to be a problem. But going for a walk is absolutely a great idea. One thing that I find really interesting is to go into the roads that you have never been before. It gives a fresh feeling and makes you feel so present. Because you have never been through that road, you have to be aware of what's happening

But while I was and somehow I got interested and inclined towards watching them. Watching them doing their own thing, lost in their own world, listening to music or maybe chatting or maybe a lot of them, a lot of especially women, because I used to travel in women compartment. A lot of women used to play different kinds of mobile games and that was pretty interesting to watch. But that is how it clicked that maybe I should be more aware of what is going on around me

And so what do I do right during my free time? So one of the things I picked up recently was drawing. I've not drawn before in my life, like realistic humanoid figures or anything like that. So I started drawing in June, and who knew that I would really love it? So now I try to practice figure drawing or portrait drawing. So something that's new for me. So I'm learning as I go. Very enjoyable. I also love doing abstract art

And number two, even I have a vision board, but it's just my wallpaper. But all the things that you have mentioned so far, it sounds like there's a lot of things that people can learn from you. I don't know, maybe you can start a YouTube channel or Instagram short clips to maybe explain and show what's going on. And people would be interested to see that and also copy that to have a better lifestyle

You? Yes, I totally agree. So there's a saying that a lot of people don't know what's the background color of their wristwatch dial because they are so busy looking at the time, but they don't actually pay attention to what other things available inside that dial. So it's a similar thing. So we don't pay attention to a lot of things when we have a routine

Thirdly, I would say you can go to a park and play with some of your mates if they are there or you can just ask them that if they can include you, if they are strangers that you can ask them that. Please include me, I would love to play. So physical activity is the prime thing to get your off screen time. It'll help you boost your serotonin levels, means like you have good hormones release in your body after physical activity. And I would suggest yoga also

Greater purpose of life

Yeah, that's the beauty of gotus somebody's heaven is somebody's hell. So we are all different species of the same almighty. How we come through our childhood, youth and the past is what makes our thoughts, desires and go to different. Somebody might get a kick in drinking partying, somebody might get a kick in reading, gardening. But yes, certain things are pretty common in humans. Like being in the nature gets you the adrenaline rush, the oxytocin and the dopamine

So I use the phone and I feel like my life is really consumed by the screens, whether it's their computer screen or the phone screen. And I kind of trying to organize myself to stay away when I'm not working officially. When I'm in a time off from work, I really try hard to stay away from the phone. But I also have a big family in Africa where I'm from and from Congo. And I have a family in Europe and myself

You. Hi. A very valid and genuine question indeed. Increased screen time is a harsh reality we all are struggling with. So I will give my personal thing which I do to reduce my screen time and that is I apply the learning from the videos. Like particularly I watch DIY videos so I apply those learnings at least one thing practically so I create something. So if I have watched ten videos I'll try to create at least one

I mean, I'm not a very good cook, but I like cooking. I like that process of chopping the vegetables and then see them cook and actually becoming into something. So I find it very magical. And maybe you can also try some things, the activities where you can feel more present, because that could actually be therapeutic. So just try out new things. Another thing is maybe you could join some physical activity or something which is more mindful. So maybe a dance

And another thing that I do other than cooking, because you cannot cook all the time is journaling. So I find this really powerful because whenever I want to understand that what is going on, because see, going. I am a person who cannot see the phone for hours and also been a person who cannot live without looking at the screen for like minute. I love fidgeting, so I can tell you from both the scenarios what I feel
