Representation Matters Bollywood

article image placeholderUploaded by @aayanisms
There is fatigue set in with the average mainstream audience watching the same rehashed versions, remixed songs over and over again. Hopefully, hopefully in 2023, we'll see original stories, newer stories with newer characters, newer artists which raised the bar of artistry in Indian Cinema. I've left the link to the full length podcast here in case that interests you. Please do hop over. Thanks and have a good day

Hi, Ann, I absolutely agree with you when you say that mainstream in Insanma or Bollywood has time and again failed to fail when it comes to representation and diversity. And recently, for research purposes, a few of my friends were conducting this survey on representation in mainstream media. And while there were quite a few questions, I almost find myself really struggling when it came to when they were asking if I have seen any trans representation in Indian cinema

Moving forward, you have of course the more popular one was Super Deluxe and I found that movie very Tarantinoesque style of movie making and they perfectly had blended different storylines into one cohesive narrative. And so it is a movie to watch out for. We had, of course, Akshakumar star of Lakshmi, which was a disaster. These are the movies which shouldn't be made. But then if you want to just keep it for the count, then yeah, that's what it is. Nano. Avanalla

The name rings a bell. I had heard about it. Of course I haven't watched it yet, but I definitely will. And I was mostly talking about mainstream Bollywood movies. Of course, there have been such endeavors in Tamil or Kanara movies like you, which I guess you have included in your list as well. And the Kshikumar statue, I had forgotten the name of it, lakshmi. I have heard it's a disaster as well

@Aishani - casting directors version

One of my thumb rules is if a trailer is three minutes long then it is supposed to be nine or ten times becomes a bad movie. The best trailers are the Malayalam trailers, right? 1 minute, one and a half minutes and you are like what the h*** just happened there? And the movies turn out to be absolute jebs. And so my disposable time is now invested in very good quality content which is well vetted, well rehearsed and only then one would go and invest time

Because representation is not just about one community, it's about representing everyone and to have people who refuse to get out of their bubble and see out of their bubble. Because currently, if you look, even if you even look at the writers that are writing scripts for Bollywood, they are so far removed from the reality of the common man in India, even the abermittees laws of India, for that matter. They are so far removed from what comprises the population of the country
