What do you do when you're 'STUCK' writing a scene?

article image placeholderStuck!
I think I've lost track of the number of times this has happened with me. I started off with this great idea inside my head. Words are just bursting out of me, and I'm making good, solid progress with my draft, and I'm thinking of wrapping up the story real quick. I'm pretty pleased with myself until I'm staring at my draft. One fine day with this blank feeling, I type out sentences, go back, delete them. I read and reread the draft

Ever written yourself into a corner?

So reading poetry or something of that kind, anything that is not what I'm writing about or in the kind of realm of what I'm writing. So for instance, I got really blocked when I was writing my application essay for my graduate school. And so I didn't go online and read graduate school essays because that wouldn't really have been helpful to unblock my writing

Oh my gosh. I relate to this so much. I was laughing so hard because you immediately made me realize that there is a short story that I have pretty much been stuck on since I think 2008, and I refuse to give give up on it because I know I'm eventually going to figure out how to make it work. I'm not like that with everything I write

Easy, Bowie. Thank you so much for those tips. I agree. Taking a break from whatever it is that you're writing seems to be the approach that seems to work for many of us. And Bowie. I really wish I was where half as persistent Su for. I am far too quick to give up on my draft. I even have this folder called Abandon on my computer and let me tell you, it's a sad little folder, but I once tried something different

I'm just a big fan of lists, so I could just like, brainstorm all the ideas, all the possible ideas I have for a scene and then read through them and pick one
