US Streaming Services Market Share (2020 v 2021)

article image placeholderVia the Wrap
Now, we've been talking about this for the last couple of weeks here on Swell, and I wanted to share this image here so that we could talk about it a little bit more and just get your initial thoughts about the sort of trends that we're seeing here. I've made it pretty clear how I feel about some of these older streaming services, namely Netflix. I'm not the biggest fan, but I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing from some of the other companies listed here

Thoughts and opinions?

Wow, HBO! And an uncertain future for Netflix.

They kind of have to do if they want to get market share. But at the same time, they're getting clobbered by these other services. So at what point do they make the decision? It's not worth it, throwing good money after bad

Some thoughts.

I can't remember if they're under Viacom or not, but they had a really weird history, but now they're trying to unify all the programming under one umbrella. And I was enjoying Star Trek Discovery. But I've since canceled that I just wasn't watching the program enough. And I watched Twilight Zone. It was some decent episodes, but not enough to keep me there. So it's going to be interesting to see how much money will these companies start putting into television versus movies?

@Tim: my best guess on HBO #s

Yeah, Tim, I saw the HBO number, and I was surprised at first two, but I think I have an explanation of that one. So prior to HBO Max rolling out, you had HBO now and HBO Go. Hbo Go was the repository of all shows. And HBO now was the streaming service for live HBO viewing. And if you had HBO through your cable provider, you got HBO Go for free. But you had to pay something additional to get HBO now

@Wuandurful TV shows are true value

And Ironically, Friends in 2020, some point in 2020 went from Netflix to HBO. Max, I have no idea if that's part of this or not. I just can't imagine that that plays too much of a role, but who knows? Maybe so. And then The Office on January 1 this year went over to Universal

My apologies for the mix up @Phil and @Tim .

Phil, I must confess that I wasn't clairvoyant enough to know that you're going to talk about this topic when I mentioned your name in my in my swell, but I actually mistakenly called Tim you, so I guess my apologies for that are in order. My bad. But you still got the gist of what I was saying. So proceed
