The Almost Astronaut

And then, just like that, the program was scrapped. Leverton was less than two weeks away from jet training. Sexism wasn't hidden like it is now, she told reporters in 2005. She never realized her dream of being a wasp. She missed the age requirement by a year, or a fighter pilot or an astronaut. In the 1980s, she was an FAA flight instructor, examiner and designated accident prevention counselor. She was a chief pilot and director of operations of a municipal airport in Arizona

I just looked up her information in the space museum, and I got this link, so hopefully this will be more information for anybody who wants to learn more

And I found out about Leverton because I work for embry Riddle Aeronautical University and her name propped up in a document that I was looking at for some history that I was researching and I had never heard of her, but I just kind of got intrigued for some reason and started looking at some newspaper articles and there she was. I wish they had been headlines, but at least she was acknowledged a little bit. Really appreciate how generous it of you to take some time and share a few encouraging words
