Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe

article image placeholdergenderqueer
It's really sweet, funny, and just a really honest look and kind of coming of age story about someone navigating their sexual identity, their gender identity, and also their gender expression and experience with transness, which was just so refreshing to read about. And in particular, I want to talk about this one scene where the writer is talking about first beginning to change their pronouns

Just being in the world

But when they just come out of the blue and they come naturally, you're just like, oh, my God, it's there. I didn't even know. Actually, I kind of had a moment of that in the book for myself coming across. I'm not going to get into which one. It's a little too personal for me, but there was a page in there that I was really like, oh, that's like me

@Lys Yayyy for space & time & being

So that was really cool to me, and I think I left the book just feeling like this process. You can take as much space and time as you need. And this is definitely a book that I want everyone to read at some point in their life because I think it's really I just love the compassionate relationship we see Maya develop in relation to gender
