Yash is currently part of the public policy team on Twitter and Swati formerly worked at the center for Civil Society, a think tank based in New Delhi. Swati and Yash, it's wonderful to have you guys on Spell. I want to start off by asking both of you what your individual stories are, what got you interested in public policy and Swathy? Can you tell us about your journey in the same regard, especially given your experience within the think tank world

So although I never ended up fully pursuing journalism, in fact, I've never pursued it as a job or even as a hobby in that sense. What that helped me was that it got me into reading, into reading about all sorts of things. Right. So from how coffee stayed in Ghana to how futures are teared in Singapore, I eat about everything
I was one of them when I entered other whole public policy as a professional. When I entered this whole space, I understood very little. And again, it was so restricted to just very hardcore research and these long form articles that you had to read books and etc. So it was just looked very heavy. And it makes no mistake. It is quite heavy in that sense

You know, Yash, I find your intellectual evolution very interesting. And clearly curiosity took you to very interesting places, right. From being a Lamb fellow to what you're doing at the moment. And while Swati gives us her background, I I was wondering what you really believe is a true definition. If there is a definition and there's a large audience of people who are curious about the field, but don't intuitively get it

If you could give us an example of a policy and how you go about reading it and how you go about simplifying? I think that would be very useful to listen to

Basically, public policy is that like the making of laws or policies in response to a failure or a need which arises and whether with the goal of getting to certain intended outcome or position. Yeah

Thanks for clarifying. Yash. That makes complete sense. You know, a lot of this is behavioral in nature and policy looks to correct that behavior or address the inadequacies and failures of the marketplace as a followup to that. What do you think communication or more specifically, what do you think the role of communication has been in all of this?
Yash Agarwal

In fact, I feel it's the other way out. And probably that's because media is usually serving the lowest common denominator. Right. So they try to oversimplify things and strip it of all nuances. And yeah, that's pretty much what happens

Hey, Ash, sorry. It took an entire day for me to get back to this conversation. I've been under the weather. I've attached a link to the Public Policy India website to the Swell. But just to conclude, I'd really appreciate if you could give us a summary of the kind of work that you've been doing and some of the articles that we can find on your platform as well as your vision. Thanks
