Colorism in India

article image placeholderUploaded by @theertha
Even now, if you asked me to name at least five dark skinned heroines in Bollywood, I wouldn't be able to answer right off the bat in our country. Ads and media and all these movies tell us how being fairer is, quote, unquote better. And the business is revolving around skin Lightening and Beautifying thrive in the Indian market. And that made me think how devastatingly racism in India be with each other. And don't get me wrong

In this SWELL I talk about colorism in India.I agree that we've come a long way but still a lot needs to be changed.

I completely agree. And I think it's so messed up how our country is completely blown away by this whole colourism thing because at the end of the day it's just how much melanin you have in in your skin. And if something as simple as the amount of protein in your body gets you killed in the US gets you discriminated against in India and things like that. It's so pathetic honestly, that people fail to see past other superficial beauty and things like that

Hi, dear. I totally agree with you. The amount of melanin in your skin can get you killed. And that's just so scary. And that does not make sense. And I just feel so bad for the people affected by racism. I think we should educate people about this because most of the people subconsciously passive racism. It's not always active racism, but passive racism. It's always happening

I completely agree. And that's why the younger generation should take a stand and start educating people. And the part where you mentioned subconscious passive racism. I completely agree. I think many people just unknowingly say microaggressive things that they don't think is racist, they don't know is racist. But it is racist. And like you said, I think education is the best way to prevent all of that and to change all of of that. So Yeah

As a Brown girl, I had experiences growing up wherein I was made fun of chess because I was, quote, Unquote Norfolk. And I think it's such a stupid thing that even children like people who are eight years old, nine years old, because that was when people made fun of me the most made fun of my skin tone. It's horrible that even they lived. Three kids make fun of each other and bully each other just because of the way they were born. It's horrible

Nobody deserves to be bullied on the basis of the amount of melanin they have in their skin. And it's just so sad to see that these thoughts have been put into the minds of children at such a young age, and they start segregating segregating themselves on the basis of their color and religion and stuff like that. So I think a lot of education needs to be done, and we still have a long way to go to achievement, complete racial equality
