#checkin: Ep. 35 - Do we really have "more to do, than before?"

article image placeholderUploaded by @The79thstreetkd
The idea that a movie will come out and, you know, we would, you know, sit and watch it from the credits all the way to the end, and we would pause and we would run to the restroom or go do what we need to do. When a commercial came on, that was a certain type of culture

We often here people have more to do thsn yesteryears. But, when we look around, how is that true?

I'm not talking about social media and distraction type apps like that. I'm thinking more along the lines of apps that are tied into work or tied into the things that we're interested in, apps or tools that allow us to create different things or accomplish different tasks. And so there are more things to do

It's enough to pay their staff. You know, things like that. A lot of things have fallen away from tradition. Like I said, those channels to go to the film industry. We've lost a lot of standards and, and in a lot of things, they're just not there anymore. People have their own way, or they say what this looks like to them, what that looks like, and that could be anything from personal to professional

Now that we have washing machines, yes, now, I noticed that I wash clothes at the same time that I'm cleaning my house while my food is heating up in the microwave. So it's like I can do three things in that amount of time where I used to just have to wash my clothes and sit there and do it by hand. So I think that technology has just allowed us to do more things simultaneously than ever in history. This is a very good post

You have to think about it in a way of what exactly is the foundation? Like you said, what is the structure? I look at it through a multitude of channels. I think, like you said, there's a way people tend to make things about what it means. To me right here in Chicago, I don't know if this is nationwide. They're, you know, kind of closing different Walgreens at an earlier time. The Walgreens are no longer 24 hours a day

He had these different figures that allowed people to have a voice. And where now we're just used to everyone talking about politics because, unfortunately, you've turned these things into a genre. Now everybody can participate in it because now their favorite person has a platform to be able to talk about it. And when that many people are talking at the same time, it creates distractions. It's not an elaborate conversation. It's not creating critical thought

You know, I, like always said on antebellum film school, anybody can point out a problem. It takes a real person to solve it. That was one of the reasons why not to stray off myself, why I had a lot of problem and continue to have a lot of problems with the way representation is articulated in media, like the way the NAACP responded to blaxploitation. They coined that phrase

So obviously that hurt a lot of local businesses, butchers and things like that, because the supermarket was now the place that had everything. Everything you needed was in one location, no need to travel at all these other places. That's convenience. But it's logical
