No Way Home has a 4.4 on Letterboxd. .1 star less than The Godfather and Seven Samurai.

article image placeholderUploaded by @Taylor
It's received 42,000 reviews and is currently sitting at 4.4 out of five stars. Now I wanted to sort of pin that up with some of the other movies that I've seen rated that high, so I thought a good one to do would be The Godfather. So I look up The Godfather, which has 6000 less reviews than Spiderman and is currently sitting at a 4.5 stars, just a measly point one star above the new Spider Man film. I wanted to look up another movie

Have our standards changed, does this have to do with age, demographics, etc?

Grain of salt yadda yadda

And like I said, I was on a rants, so I don't even know if I said this, but I mean, these are film review sites. Obviously, we got to take them with a grain of salt. These sites get review bombs. There's virtually no limit to who can leave a review. I would venture to say that far more people that grew up with these Spiderman films are leaving reviews than the people that grew up with, let's say Kevin Samurai or Godfather

This should be interesting.

And as like you, I will check it out, but it's going to be interesting, like with Shane Qi. I saw that movie and I didn't like it actually was really bad for me, but I heard so many people praise it. So it goes to show you people when they react. They can be premature, in a sense and kind of like hoping the bandwagon as well, rather than impartially judging a film for its merits. But yeah, I usually go off IMDb

Dawan. What's up? I agree with so much of what you said when you were talking, I was thinking we almost need two separate scales for ranking movies, ranking the ones that would be considered of old timing classics, and then the ones of new like your MCU films, which people are touting as the great. I wouldn't take it that far. I think that's a bit extreme, but one point you bring up is about how these reviews are reactions rather than reviews

Tenet! Lol

This is the key component to reviewing film. That initial reaction. I get it. Sometimes something can be amazing, but you got to go back and see some of the things you missed because you do miss s***. You can't catch everything in one viewing. There's just no way possible. And maybe then a lot of these films, we say, are great. Now will just be okay later

@FryedOreo TENET. YES!

It is incredible how much my opinion of it changed. It was like watching an entirely different movie. When I sat down and saw it for the second time, I've actually told people, you got to watch it. You got to watch it and give it a little bit of time to marinade because it is something else. So I'm glad that you also had that experience with it. I wish I saw it in theaters. I didn't have the chance to, but TV is good anyways

If I'm going to rate it as a film, how much I enjoyed it, it's going to be like a 9.5 out of ten if I'm going to rate it as how well made. And as far as actual cinema goes, how sound of a picture it was. It's not Godfather. It's not a 9.5 obviously, but it's a fun film. It's a fun movie that makes me happy

@ryebread

Brian, I think you bring up a really excellent point. I mean, there is a very noticeable difference between something that you enjoy because of how connected to it you are and the level of excitement that gives you. And then how much you enjoy something as I don't know, like, I would say a work of art with that comes like a level of condescension that I do not mean in any way, shape or form. And like you. Yeah

Appreciate your thoughts @ryebread .

And if you had the choice to go see either film again, you would choose Spiderman. Nothing wrong with that at all. It's totally how you feel. But the interesting thing that comes into play is with films that make us happy. Is it us as the individual or us as in the demographic is trying to reach because I know The Godfather has made a lot of people happy when they see it and they want to see it again and again. But I get it
