Music Streaming - If You Don’t Know, Now You Know

article image placeholderMusic Streaming - If You Don’t Know, Now You Know | The Daily Show
So on one of the most recent episodes of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah did a sort of deep dive into Spotify and streaming services and how they have really affected many different facets of the music industry. I think the one that's most notable, the one that people hear about the most, is how little money artists actually make from the streams on services like Spotify. And it's really interesting to sort of think about the evolution of streaming platforms

Thank you 🙏

It's so confusing to people who truly just love the streaming experience, and they want to believe that everyone is being given a fair chance to be rewarded for what the gift is that they're giving, which is music. But the transaction is all wrong. And it's so painful for me as a musician. For many, many years, I made my money in CD sales at live events. Rarely did I make money through the systems I put my CD in

And to me, this was the main point of the story. And what should have been focused on is that the streaming platforms aren't really the bad guy. Streaming platforms, to me, actually revolutionized the business, the music business and kind of saved it from piracy because especially people in our generation we're millennials. We're downloading music illegally off of Lime, Wire, Napster, or Kazaa any of these platforms for a long time and no one was getting money from it. It was just sharing

They really got a struggle with touring. Touring Nonstop and you see interviews with these bands saying they got a torn torn tour, and I'm sure they love touring, but that's how they got to make their money. Now, with MTV not promoting their hot singles anymore, it's just insane how much the music industry has changed and how bands create revenue make their money

#Music I feel like music does not feel the same anymore

They just listen to it and check the thing away because I just feel like music doesn't last as long as it does, because it doesn't last as it used to, because just the way music is made, I just feel like it's not the same anymore. And obviously it's not going to be the same. But it doesn't feel the same. Albums feel like album. They just feel like a collage of songs put together just for the sake of streams
