Innerspace (1987) - Starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short & Meg Ryan

Now I'm going to read the synopsis from Google just so that you get a really solid idea of what this movie is about. I don't want to convolute it in any way. A scientifically miniaturized marine unexpectedly finds himself floating around the body of a hypochondriac and trying to outwit saboteurs who want the device that shrank him. Attempts by his colleagues to retrieve the little man protected inside a tiny submersible are hampered by the would be thieves. Unbelievably ridiculous

Directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Burbs, The Howling, Small Soldiers)

So I just wanted to comment here on how fantastic the 80s films were that incorporated both of those genres together so well. Whereas in the 90s, it kind of fell off. They really couldn't do it. And then, of course, there was the surge of the indie film movement in the early 90s. So it kind of pushed back the big Hollywood production comedy aspect of the 80s. But if you go back to the 80s, just really fun films. And the genres were just really solid

Hey, Neil, great reply. I completely agree with everything that you said. And just to add, you know, I think that one of the reasons that this particular time of filmmaking was so special is that you really had to put that extra amount of effort into whatever it is you're doing, especially something sort of ambitious like this, and that there's tons of special effects going on as far as practical physical effects and then also computer effects. It costs a lot of money

I mean, it's still great pacing and the characters and everything, but the science behind it is actually funny to watch these old movies. I just remember at the time when I saw it in 87, it completely looked real and futuristic and things change over time. But I definitely agree that these films are sadly needed or sorely missed today. This kind of the Rick Moranis was the backyard one. Honey, I shrunk the kids. That is a great film too

So this was like a favorite of my family, and I still own it. We talk about it all the time, watching Inner Space, and I can't not hear the song twisting the night away without Envisioning Martin Short jumping up and down and dancing on the couch. So I love the movies. It was so underrated, but it was the best. And I I'm glad that you were reminded of its true classicness

There has been something about him that I've been drawn to, obviously because he's an incredibly talented or was an incredibly talented musician and performer. But I think that I now know why. I think it's because subconsciously, I remembered how much of his music was used in this film and how endearing Martin Short was jamming out to the song and just a good time from start to finish. Thanks for shouting that out
