And today we're going to talk about how she arrived at this expertise, what she's seeing going on in the hugely popular trend of social audio. And really looking at how voice is going to show up at South By Southwest. Simone, thank you so much for taking the time. I know you're in Brazil right now. It's getting late. So this conversation might spread across a couple of days

Voice is the new black - the buzz of social audio is here. @Simone is talking with us about her role as a mentor at #sxsw. #speakup!

And back then, I realized that having a beautiful voice isn't as important as knowing how to use your voice to effectively communicate and transmit the essence of a message. Our voice, for me, is like our eyes. It's a window into our soul just from listening to us talk these few short minutes, people out there using this web app have already begun to form opinion about this. And just one more thing to add. I also have a degree in business administration

Common challenges ...

And I know it's so intimate to have a mentor mentee relationship. And at south by Southwest, you have a chance, I think, starting today or this weekend, maybe today, when the mentor programs begin to connect with people and empower them as quickly as you can, because I think the sessions are only 15 minutes or something. Can you tell us a little bit about the common challenges you see people facing around their use of their voice?

Since the fact that we'll be online this year, I think people from all over the world will be engaging with each other in new and exciting ways. I can't wait. And Deborah, in regards to your question about people not liking the sound of their own voice, this is so, so common. What happens is that the voice we hear when we play back a recorded message on our cellphone, for example, is not at all what we hear when we talk to other people

The power of Voice in social media

But when you just use your voice, there's a chance for more authenticity, I think, and a less likely sense of being manipulated because the voice is so revealing of the person who's speaking that you sort of trust them and you hear their tone. Do you think that voice can play a big role in what's been such a downward spiral in the social space where we've just had bullying and we've had misinformation?

It's a wonderful feeling, very special. And it isn't the same as somebody liking a post on Facebook or Instagram. When somebody repeats what you say or when they made it clear that they are trying to understand what you're saying, then a real connection is made. And one more point that has been made is that our voice also holds us accountable. Our voices are like our fingerprints. They are unique

But when you are engaged by a company and a company is trying to figure out their social strategy, and you're bringing in the idea that using voice is a really powerful way to brand themselves. What's the sort of road you take them down for them to consider using voice as part of their brand identity

Audio Branding

I'm looking forward for your session at South By Southwest. I can't wait. I'll be there with you. And as a mentor at the festival, I will discuss, among other topics, voice acting like, like I said. But voice branding and voice for Immersive content, too. The brand needs to have a Sonic strategy more than ever. Audio branding is as important as visual branding. Companies should ask, what does my brand sound like? What is the audio guide for my brand?

It's online, so it's hard to really know who's there, but hopefully we'll hop over those barriers and be able to feel like we're together. So thanks again. And here's the link to Simone's mentor session
