Email Sign in

We have also introduced the option of signing in with your email instead of using one of the social logins. Latest Swells

You may be wondering where the latest tab is. We no longer have that tab, but you can find the latest posted Swells by going to the search. When you go to the search you'll see in the category tabs that the second one is called Latest. It used to be indicated by a double speech bubble before, but now we have labeled it Latest to be really clear, so most new swell will show up here and it will help you find all the new Swell content

Swell stats

I was just curious if in your development you have a status piece that will be arriving at some point in the future. Thank you

The answer to that, Ryan, is affirmative. And I'm going to invite somebody to have a more robust response to you. But yes, Yes

Hi, Ryan. I believe the Stats feature is going to be out very soon, maybe in the next week or two, so keep an eye out for it and it should be here any time

And I also know that it will become difficult as you scale to maintain that, but it's greatly appreciated right now, and I do notice it not just with me, but with other people in other conversations that you have been interacting with it's. Bye

Qu: Restricted replies

I was just curious. In the plant heist discussion, the responses or replies are restricted. And I was curious why? That is because that means that no one can reply and kind of defeats the whole purpose, does it not? So I was just curious. Why is that, like a technical? Is there a bug, or do they actually restrict it so you can only listen and there's no engagement. Thanks

@RyanCartier re: restricted replies

And since I was interviewing some people from south by Southwest, I found it easier to restrict replies, prevents people from trolling or from hopping in there at an inappropriate time and asking a question. And wouldn't you know it? I just simply forgot to open it up to the public

@Swell neon blue Android notification

So there you are. I guess I should listen to all the updates and read the update notification of version 2.7. I'm running 2.7 .1 I heard your update about this more than two weeks ago when you first put it up, the color of the notification intrigues me. I don't think that was possible to push notification color to the Master operating system screen, but it's happening on Swell for me. Very nice

Audio file attachments qu.

I was curious if a person does a post and then they add an audio file as their attachment. Can that be done, similar to adding a picture picture, but an audio file instead. And also, is there a maximum size limit that the file has to be within? Thank you
@sudha
Sudha Varadarajan
@sudha · 0:36

@RyanCartier

The image upload will only support uploading image media files and not other types of media. So at this time there isn't any support to upload other file types. It may come in the future, but it is not there at present. With respect to maximum file size. Yes, there is a maximum file size. I don't know exactly what it is, but if you exceeded it will show you an error indicating that you have exceeded the Max size

Where is thumbs up list, & how to turn off follow prompt

I like the way you set it up, but I'm done looking at it. I just will do that if I decide to. So how do I turn that off? And then I'll just go to the profile if I want to follow it. Thanks. Bye

Everybody was on BBM and now WhatsApp? So there's a million WhatsApp groups, right? And there's family groups and there's gym groups. And I have client groups and class groups, not just client groups, but just like the boxing class group. So people are kind of a little bit maxed out with groups. The way I'm thinking about it is they are a little bit maxed out with groups on WhatsApp? Why would I ask them to join this swell group as just a group?
@MarkR
Mark Francis Rahaman

And with Snapchat, of course, it's just a load of fun, and it's mainly video with filters, but other filters are still great. I don't know if you use Snapchat if you have or still do, but it's just silliness. It's just you can just show something, but it's mostly for fun. And there is a reason for using Snapchat in that way. Over what's up?

Audio is passive consumption

The major difference is it is passive consumption versus I have to stop everything I'm doing and actively consume it. For instance, texting is active. You have to stop what you're doing in text. Video consumption is active. You have to stop what you're doing and pay attention, whereas audio is passive in that you can be doing something else and consume it

@MarkR
Mark Francis Rahaman
@MarkR · 2:12

@Cartier

That's why I actually use if I'm using WhatsApp, for instance, I myself use voice if I'm speaking one on one with people because it's easy. So I could be locking my front door, walking off and just quickly send a voice and voice note to someone we're not supposed in the UK, we're not allowed to drive and touch our phones. We can get fine. But if I have to send a message, that's the quickest way

@Cartier

Sorry I got your name wrong. I just looked at the name to tag you, and I realized I called you Carter. And it's not Carter. I think it's Cartier. Cartier. Is that right? Am I pronouncing it right? Or Cartier? Cool name. Either way
@DBPardes
Deborah Pardes
@DBPardes · 2:52

@MarkR

So if I start a group and I've invited, let's say, ten people to it, and they each can create their own conversation inside that group, and they can also reply to each of those individual conversations and have links and pictures and things like that. And I think it's great for group education. Group think as opposed to when you do a private conversation with someone that's not in a private group, it's in a private conversation

Ryan, I just wanted to respond to the question you raised in other thread about BOOKMARKS and ability to turn off the request to follow when you react to somebody. So the BOOKMARKS feature that I know is in product development and it should be releasing sometime in the next couple of releases of the product. And with respect to the turning of the request to follow, I I have passed on that request to the product team to add to the roadmap and they swell be picking it up in their product cycle

Invite w a link

You could just contact them and say, hey, can you please reply to this and would that be let's sufficient invitation to have them immerse themselves in trying the app out. So if you do decide to do that, drop a line and let us know how it goes
@Cartier
Ryan Cartier

Cross #language #translation future feature

I don't know if translators are at the point where they can actually do this, and you probably have enough stuff on the go right now that this is not the item to build out until the technology is there even available. But I think it would be interesting if someone let's say someone in China posted something, and then I could actually listen to it in English and then reply back and it would translate it back to Chinese. And we could have cross language Cartier communication via the translator

@Cartier
Ryan Cartier
@Cartier · 2:09

Manual #translation #app feature

And this would give a number of translators a way of participating in Swell, as well as broaden the swell audience for a particular feed from just the constraints of the language to a much wider audience because the language is no longer a barrier. So I'm just thinking, what would be the easiest way to do this?

How to find recorded swell to finish, finicky

I also notice it when I'm adding a hashtag summary or a URL for people that I've mentioned adding the text into that 75 word swell. Actually, adding text anywhere in the app seems to be more finicky than the other apps that I use on a regular basis. I don't know if that's something you can look into, but if it is, it could make a noticeable difference unless it's just my phone, because potentially it's just this phone that has that issue

Can I DM multiple people at the same time?

I was just curious if I can direct message multiple people in the same direct message. So for instance, I know I can DM one person, but if I want to DM the same message to multiple people, is that possible? Or do I need to DM them all individually

Ryan, I'm sorry that this was missed. I think you asked two questions here that we missed responding to. So to go over both the questions. The first one, is there a way to go go back from the second screen, back to where you have your recorded content. It was something that we've gone back and forth on the product side, and I think the product team has something different in mind for the release that is coming up in a couple of months

How do I turn off auto play so I can search? Thank u

So I was just curious, is there a setting I turn or I toggle to prevent it from automatically playing so I can search. If so, please let me know where I find that. Thank you

@Cartier just pause and scroll

Hi Ryan. You can pause and scroll through the list. It will remain paused. It won't autoplay, so just hit pause and scroll until you find something that you are looking for to play, if that's what you'd like to do

auto play option, intuitive edit, Question Swell

And if there was some intuitive way that a person could find that, and perhaps that's a little icon somewhere. A number of questions that people have when they start. Given that this is a voiceop, I'm wondering if there might be a way where you guys can set something up, where a person asks the question and it provides the options around it or some type of voice. A question swell is where I'm going with this

Visual UX, toggle options, voice only UX (blind)

Now what's interesting is I'm using this visually. You might need to move to also like a voice experienced where there is no visual whatsoever. So how does a person who just wants to engage with this platform via voice do so essentially, that means how do I do this blind and all of the prompting and all other interaction would be voice. Right. Which would also make for an interesting AB test because you would have your visual interaction and your full voice interaction
@Cartier
Ryan Cartier
@Cartier · 1:06

Disability benefit from blind UX

The other thing that's really interesting that you can leverage if you go the voice user experience, which is essentially the blind user experience is you open up your platform to everyone with a disability that involves blindness. And right now there's a huge backing in society to help people who have different challenges. And you might even find that you can engage some people who are blind to give you user experience feedback because they don't even have the option to view it

Questions for Swell? @support

So for purely browsing, I would encourage you to use the second tab, which is the search and browse where you can just browse Swell and find the ones that you're interested in other search for ones you're interested in
@Cartier
Ryan Cartier

Copy paste, sensitivity adding text, topics blocked in scroll

I just don't use it because I just want to do the search and it's constantly popping up a thing and talking on one of those options. It doesn't talk. I can press pause, and it doesn't talk all the time, but it keeps popping the thing up for me to press, and I'm trying to search. So when it keeps blocking my ability to search, I just leave the app and I don't use it

So if you're in a particular screen and you don't wish to see the player, even though you pause whatever is playing, you can swipe it down on to dismiss it. So I hope that helps as well. Thank you. Bye

Turn off suggestion notices, & auto audio when browsing

Hi. I was just curious. How do I turn off the suggestion notifications that pop up? I don't see where that is in the notification settings. Also, how do I set it to just not talk as soon as I find something? So for instance, if I select an item to browse the topic, it automatically starts talking to me, and I just want to browse it. I haven't decided I want to talk, so I'm curious

@Cartier

If you are on the home screen and you pause and then you continue to flip and scroll, it will remain paused and you can keep scrolling until you find one that you're interested in listening to and start listening in the other screen

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to insert an audio file? In other words, if I wanted to quote somebody I heard on the news and I wanted you to guys to hear exactly the way you said it by playing just that little bit of audio. Is there a way for me to insert that into as well? That's my question. Thanks so much
