Social Media Influencers in India will now have to declare promoted content. Will it change the way you consume content?

Is it going to change the way you perceive a product or service pushed at you by an influencer just because he or she is going to declare it right at the outset

So it is very important to know that whether the company or somebody has paid you to do this and it is very similar to the Privacy labels that we are looking at. We have done this in simplicity quite a bit. So we have done a lot of this editorial kind of editorial content which has been clearly marked. The very first word of that post would be tagged as commercial or sponsored or whatever to denote that it has been paid for

My 2 cents

Hi Shijah. I think it's a move that has to be welcomed. I'm totally with Sam on this one. Any kind of endorsement paid endorsement has to be declared upfront by the influencer. Here is what I feel. Anything other than that would definitely amount to distortion of facts or withholding of facts or even blatant lying. So that's my take on this. And as a consumer, if I were to see content with such a Disclaimer, how would I feel about it?

And because of that very fact that other are people like you and me but have chosen to use the digital medium to communicate to thousands of others, and they are all willing to listen because of some element of credibility, because of other simple fact that yes, this is yet another average Indian like you and me. And so we are more inclined to take a lot of what they have to say. And with a heavy dose of credibility. Right
