Students living in cars

article image placeholderUploaded by @studentlife
Hello everyone. I have, you know, been hearing a lot of things about the housing crisis around my campus because we just recently switched to a California Polytechnic, which means there's going to be an anticipated huge increase in enrollment. But one of the biggest problems with the administration at my College is they do not have enough housing and they have not made a whole lot of efforts to create equitable housing for all students

Hi. So I actually think that this is very interesting because I am coming here from San Diego State University and while I myself do not live in a car or a van or have van life, I have met other people, people who have had similar problems, such as you, who do want to live in vans. I actually knew someone at USD, so University of San Diego not too far from here

Hey Kate Jensen, thank you so much for your reply. You're right. There is like a growing trend of like van Lisa, and it can be a really cool way to accommodate a low budget. But I think it's interesting because I really think that whole movement, especially with students, kind of stems from the poor economic situation we're in where living expenses have skyrocketed, but our livable wage has not increased at the same pace

But so what I did and one of the reasons I moved into a van is because I would have 24 hours access to the bathrooms and the showers on campus, in the gym. And there are some restrooms that you can just swipe your student ID that are open 24/7. So, yeah, that's exactly what I did. Definitely for me personally, not sustainable lifestyle forever. But it worked really well for a couple of years
