What do you look for in a story?

I gave a TEDx Talk in 2019 entitled Fantastic Stories and Why We Need Them. And then I discuss what makes a good story for me to answer that question, I look for, and this is something that I did discuss in the Ted Talk. I look for four specific elements. I look for hardship, humor, heart and hope. Those are the four things that I look for and the four things that in my mind make a good story

As a scholar and lover of stories I have always been curious to know what different people look for in stories! #story #writer #fantasy #author

A great book to me is an example of that was Blake Crouches recursion where there was so much heart in there and there was so much character development and you felt the pain or the emotional, the thought processes that were connected to that pain and the feelings that they were going through, as well as the the science and the deep thinky aspects of it

And that's exactly the sort of analysis that I wanted and perspective that I wanted in terms of sort of the intention as to why I asked the question to begin with, especially because now I'm working on finding the best way in which I want to tell my story

@AnnCanela Here you go! https://youtu.be/Aa3-A2jYd3s

I'm actually working on a skillshare course where I actually break those four pillars down even further on top of what I did in my Ted Talk, which I took the liberty of linking in this reply, in case you or anyone else that falls onto this swell cast ends up wanting to watch or read. Not read, but, like, watch the Ted Talk. So thank you so much for that reflection. I really appreciate you and taking the time to listen and reply and share your perspective
