Chasing the Horizon - Author Sundeep Singh on hope, perseverance and being the best version of yourself.

article image placeholderUploaded by @Ramya
Perhaps the thing that makes us human are the stories, real and imagined that each of us have inside of us. The human instinct for storytelling is stronger than we give it credit for. And when you tell a story, you spark a connection, especially if it is a story of hope and a never say die attitude that seeks to inspire. Hello, everyone

1. What sparked the idea for the book?

From conquering self doubt to avoiding negative self talk to staying laser focused on goals. Your book Sundeep is a masterclass on being the best version of yourself. What inspired you to write this book? Was there a specific event or a realization that sparked the thought and set the ball rolling?

Now, when I think about that same mantra about myself and I think about what has been that most uncomfortable moment in my life, I always think about this incident which happened way back in my schooling days. It was, I think, 1999. I was in the 11th standard in one of the school tests. I had scored about two marks out of 25, by far the lowest marks in the class. And as it turned out, there was a totaling mistake in that answer sheet

2. How do you manage to juggle between your varied areas of interest as an author, runner, blogger & consultant?

Author, blogger, runner and consultant. You're someone who has donned several hats and continues to successfully juggle between multiple roles. How do you strike a balance between these hugely diverse areas of interest? I'm very curious

I've seen so many times people that I speak within the professional space, they do have some kind of hobbies. So I'll come across people who would sometimes say things like I love dancing, but I don't find much time for it these days. I love reading, but somehow between travel and office commitments, I don't find time. I just feel like it cannot be like you love something or you are passionate about something and you don't find time

3. On Self Acceptance Vs Self Improvement. How do we strike a balance?

While it is a great thing to be able to accept yourself for who you are, faults and all, it is also important to set goals and work on improving oneself. So is it possible to be content with oneself while still striving for improvement? I think this is something that I really wanted your take on, Sundeep, as to how we can resolve this conflict between self acceptance and self improvement

Some of you might be aware that in 2019 I set the record of running 100 half marathons in 100 consecutive days to spread awareness about air pollution. That, to me, was a good achievement, something that I felt very happy about. But had I felt content with where I was few years back, I wouldn't have been able to do that. Even as we speak, there is a self improvement opportunity that I'm working on

I think I'll leave you with one final question, Sundeep, but before that, I would like to take a few moments to thank you for taking the time out and being a part of this wonderful conversation around your book, the link to which I'm going to be sharing here in the description for our listeners to check out

And in a way, this is really a summary of what I have learned from my parents all my life. The first thing is never be afraid of challenges or hurdles. Just learn to embrace them. You will invariably face challenges as you navigate different phases of life. That's the nature of life. You can't change that sometimes. There will also be temptations and distractions along the way, which will inhibit your ability to think rationally during those difficult moments
