article image placeholderUploaded by @Shaz
The Bangladesh police have urged organizers to cancel his show and they've said there is some credible information that several organizations are posing this stand up comedy show and it could create chaos, which may lead to law and order problems if it continued. The police have also said that Manawa is a controversial figure as he has made controversial statements on other religions. God. Earlier this year, Munawar had spent more than a month in jail after some groups were offended by remarks he allegedly made during a show

Hey, Charles, I haven't been following this news, but after you mention this, I got thinking and, of course, creative expression and creative freedom definitely in a democracy has to be respected. But setting the minority majority argument aside, I think at some level we must respect all our differences. Right? And that goes for religious texts, religious practices, and that should be across the board

@wordsmith his previous arrest

Hey Srita, thank you for replying. I do agree with what you said about accepting our differences and not letting you divide us. But as I further read about this case is Comedian has also been arrested before and the details are a little murky because as I go from New South to New source, I feel like there's slightly different masala added to the same story

Like, he's definitely funny, but his skit has a lot of jokes that show disrespect to some of the cultures or some of the religions, and well, they might be funny, or they might look funny at that moment, but also to some religious people that might be really offending. And although it comes with a Disclaimer not to get offended. But I think you should really play safe when you are creating content for such a huge audience

And if it's like, no talking about Hindus, no talking about Muslims, no talking about Modi, no talk about NCB. I mean, I don't know. I feel we should have no boundaries when it comes to comedy. Let people just be as funny as they can. But it's not the first time that we are hearing about such incidences. Stand up comedians have definitely been behind the bars due to a number of reasons because their jokes have been offensive. I don't know

Like, of course, artists must be responsible in their content, but even every single opinions are condemned these days, so I don't even know what to say. I personally feel like we should be part of a country where healthy discussions must take place. You have to listen to different opinions. Of course, that's how we grow, and that's how we realize
