Sermon from an atheist: "Hide it under a bush..." YES!!

article image placeholderUploaded by @SeekingPlumb
That was one of my favorite parts, the yelling no part. But anyway, this is going to sound absolutely sacrilegious, specifically coming from an atheist, but I think my message today to Christians is to hide it under a bush. Hide that light and here's the thinking humans, we are fallible, we make mistakes, we are hypocritical. There's no way to avoid this. It just is the nature of what it is to be human

BE the light, don't perform the light. Let God shine through. #Christianity #atheism #faith #surprise

It was perfectly stated and said. Not that when I add stuff, it's because it's not perfectly stated or said. I just don't have anything else left to add. Honestly, I have nothing else left to add except that I am going to continue on with my day, shining brightly, regardless of how uncomfortable it makes anyone, how blinding my light is. I am going to shine on. Thank you for the confirmation

You live what you believe, and that's something that I can appreciate and respect, even though, like I said, we don't necessarily believe the same things. But I just really appreciate that alignment that I want to say authenticity. Yeah. May you continue to shine brightly

Hey, Christina. Man, this is phenomenal. This is awesome stuff. I think you hit the nail on the head twice. Just the thought of what you said people professing a certain faith and just their actions not lining up with whatever they're values are just basically destroys their whole testimony, right?

When a customer is there, then the car is amazing and fabulous and it's shiny and it's going to change your life, right? But as soon as the customer goes away, well, all the shy and the glitz and glam and whatever ideas were wrapped up in the story about this particular vehicle, they're sort of meaningless. And the relationship is not one of appreciation for this particular car

I think you're absolutely correct. And I don't mind when you say your atheism is bleeding through. I don't mind it. I'm happy to hear your points of view. And one of the things that came to mind when you were mentioning the car salesman, like an aspect or idea about kind of like religion and how it's sort of sold or marketed, which, by the way, I think you're totally correct. It's the wrong approach to promote anything, really

For instance, being Fishers of Ben, if your goal is to convert, if your goal as acts of faith, then you're going to go about this by keeping track of how many people you've converted, making sure that the conversion happens. You know what I mean? It's a different focus than if you read that verse from a position of God's love and any other character traits of God that one wants to embody or have more of in their lives. Yeah, it's tough

So I've been trying to go back in my journey and trying to read things through, not just to read and see, hey, what can I learn from this verse now? But at the same time, hey, what did he original, what was the author's tent? Who was the audience?

I mean, I've been having this conversation back and forth with you. Today I'm having a conversation with another gentleman about things like capitalism and altruism, and I'm loving it. I live for it. So, please, no apologies necessary. Hearing you describing your experience and how your approaching scriptures now reminded me of my past. I grew up in a family where my parents both believe themselves to be prophet, the spoken tongues and so on
