The first ever international game to be awarded by default (India vs Sri Lanka 1996 World Cup Semi finals, Kolkata)
The 9096 Cricket World Cup was cohosted by India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India would have had some really fond memories in the tournament, but the semifinal against Sri Lanka was definitely not one of them. India became the first team to lose a game by default as the crowd got so hostile that it was too risky for the players to get back on the field. As a result, India was knocked out of the World Cup and the eventual winners Sri Lanka, went into the finals
