The smell of shopping malls..

article image placeholderUploaded by @Ramya
So here's the gist of what I just read. There are apparently several malls that diffuse perfumes throughout their premises to the point that shoppers actually start associating a certain smell with a certain mall or a certain brand, because studies have shown that ambient sense subtly contribute to perception of quality, and it can actually make shoppers to linger around more and spend more. Interesting. Right. Another way to think about scent marketing is how it works at a movie theater. The smell of popcorn

Thank you for this post, not only because it was a nice sensual tour of, well, an old factory tour of the mall, which I very much enjoyed as someone who loves to smell things, but also the market aspect, which is always interesting. I look a lot at how I'm being manipulated as a consumer, as a form of resistance. So I definitely like to know in which ways marketing has suddenly gotten to me. And it's just also interesting from a psychology perspective

Hey Ramya, this is such a fascinating post and I enjoy listening to it. And you know, I am somebody who loves walking into shopping malls, especially, I think subconsciously, it's always been the smell. And now when you put all these facts across, it seems to be a very well researched and carefully thought of strategy in terms of actually building a brand image around sense. And it's really fascinating. Thank you for the share
