And then my dad adopted father, he would say, actions speak louder than words. Like, I don't want to hear talk. I want to see actions. And this is a man of west sub Saharan African descent. And I'm not saying that there's life, this accent that you need to imagine, but I want you to understand the level of seriousness and discipline that this man had

Sometimes you feel like you didn't get enough love and you didn't get enough of something else. But when you go through life, you realize that how hard it must have been for them. Not just living their life alone, but taking care of us. Me and my siblings, my sisters. And same goes for my dad. Nobody is perfect. But when you just think about that, it's easy to criticize. But we only learn from experience

When it comes to living life and experiencing life, we can, if we're paying attention, if we're aware of this, see how complex and beautiful and how much really goes into the experiences that our parents may have had and how that has affected us in our livelihood and how it all is connected, the good, the bad, the ugly. Now I understood what she meant when I was little when she said that. And so it would make me more upset because I was like, danglarsome, she's great. I am disturbed by it. But no, this was great. The cap is like, you know what, it'd be interesting to kind of put life this in a little miniature book some of these phrases from family and then gift it to people who I think I just came up with an idea
