What are your thoughts on the Hijab ?

article image placeholderhijab Conversation
I'm always conflicted about the entire narrative about the hijab. Yes, people should have the right to wear what they want. But I very often also, at the same time, wonder, is this a choice, or is this really a choice? Or is it something that has been a form of that has been forced on by patriarchy, as the norm, as culture, as tradition, as a part of a choice that you are supposed to make?

And they feel like when they cover their head, they're Holy, similar to men who put the Kepa, the Yamaka on their heads when they're out in public, they want to show their Holiness, and they want to show that sort of a head covering in deference to the presence of God. So my sisters have really shown me that they're joyful to cover their heads, but they're not covering their faces

And to think that at one point it used to be nine yards of fabric that had to be dripped around one's body. And similarly, I think even as we look probably around the whole concept of women not having hair on their body, right. Which is probably something that came out of a marketing ploy that Gillette had at that point used

Don't underestimate my common sense, my brains, and don't discount me by doing that. You're making me feel I'm less than you. Total disagreement here. So for me, this is a big no. I feel it's a long journey. It's a hard journey for women. I'm sure if the men starts, start behaving little differently and give the freedom what they deserve, what will be a better place, in my opinion

Thanks. Hi, Deborah, thanks for your observations. But you know, I just feel that one is this whole essence of Holiness religion I have I very often question it because being a member of the LGBTQI community very often, though, we keep saying that all religion does not tell anyone to hate or do these things. But it is a fact that religion is most often used to persecute not just the minority community, but also women for being in a certain way

Hi shuija. I totally, totally agree that Hijab is not the only such example. The veil is as problematic in terms of sari. Yes. And know, because I feel sometimes that if I look at how the Bengali Bengali men were the and how the Marathi Fisher will be where the sari is so similar. And I feel if we look at like I had gone to this Museum in Bull

Why should someone look at me if I can't see that person? And yes, I always question, why is it that women have to hide their fees? Why is it that men don't have to hide their fees? And why is it always in every culture? Yes, you're right. Be it the way be it the way covering the head. It's mostly not a choice. It's always about modesty. It's always about what is appropriate

So there is somehow a different set of rules that women have to adhere to. And if we call these rules obeying the rules to be part of the society of social tax, then there is the pink tax that is paid on the social tax by women. And so women have different rules in every social structure

And even in that a US born and educated woman was a much smaller faction because many of the women in the class were typically from other countries who came to the United States for higher education. So the American born and educated woman was potentially under 10% of the engineering classroom. And I got this information from admissions offices in high ranked engineering schools from across the country. And I believe that this is a question that is talked about in these schools, and they are looking at this very keenly

And I feel subconsciously parents are very often aware of this whole social narrative that women girls will get married and they're no longer a part of the family and the responsibility. And that's why they want to spend more money on educating sons for maybe the kind of employment where the earnings more because they can also depend on their children. And I feel that is subconsciously somewhere there that okay today. Also, there is a lot to do with in the marriage, quote unquote market
