Are professional film critics still relevant?

article image placeholderUploaded by @OmegaStrange
But what he was trying to say was that we did not make this movies TV appeal to the critics. And these are professional critics. Critics with like film studies, masters, PhD, they have a lot of influence. But should movies be made to appeal to the critics? Right? You can look at some of the top critics and you can try to analyze what type of films that appeals to them because it does help

So, yeah, you can make a career now by getting your films critically bombed at the box office, but they can feasibly make a lot of money for investors. In a way, critics are obsolete, but at the same time, a lot of people don't know what to look for it's sometimes when evaluating a good film beyond their personal biases. And that can be a sad thing. But anyway, I appreciate this. Well

Hey, it's JL. I don't know. Film critics have never been relevant to me, and the reason why is because my interest in a movie is my interest in a movies. TV will say, there have been a couple of movies that I have heard film critics review and just based on their summary of the movie, not whether it was a good or bad movie, but just the overall summary intrigued me. And I thought, I think I want to watch that now

Yeah, I think they still need it. I enjoy reading the reviews every now and then, especially because they can break things down in a way that I'm not able to break down. So it's very informative to listen to these film reviewers. But, yeah. I want to thank you for replying to The Swell. Peace out

And it's funny because that TV show that he's talking about, it's pretty much nothing special. I'm just being honest with you. It is basically Hollywood. It fits into what you would think Hollywood wants to put out, or at least, I don't know, it's like the same old recipe that they use on every dish. So when I first heard that Arthur say that we didn't make this film for the critics, which it sounds respectable, right?

You don't need to be Richard Roper to do a film review. And I feel like I can relate to them more because it's the audience that's providing these thoughtful reviews. And like I said, I can just relate to where they're coming from so much more

Do they know about cinematography, the way the camera is lit for the scene and the emotional impact it's supposed to have? Do they know about the thematic elements that's going on in the film? Do they understand the blocking of a scene and why they chose to guide it a certain way? These are things that film reviewers kind of know because they went to film school. So they kind of know about a lot of that story element stuff that most people intuitively just experience

They did not appreciate it. They thought it was too dark. They felt like it didn't make them laugh enough. They didn't like the ending because of the way it ended. He just did not enjoy the film. And back in the early mid 2000, most romcom films, they had a formula. And I think with the breakup, it chose a different formula to make the tell a story, right?
