They heard Leslie West. They saw him play with Mountain, and they had an epiphany moment and said that's it that's the sound we're going for. We need to be heavier, we need to be louder. And they fire their lead singer and then shortly thereafter produced the album Machine Head and Machine Head is one of those albums that has Smoke on the water on it. And if you listen to it, you can definitely tell that there's influence from Leslie West
