In Memoriam - John Le Carré

article image placeholderJohn le Carré Knew England’s Secrets
There are no James Pawns here, but in spite of those flaws, or perhaps because of them, those characters leave an indelible impression on the reader. I was fortunate to meet John La Cara in person at a book signing in Seattle over 20 years ago. I still have that auto draft copy of Single and Single with me. I recently also purchased a copy of his latest book, A Legacy of Spies, in which he revisits Smiley's World. I have not read it yet

#audiomemorial In a class of his own, he wrote great literature disguised as a spy thriller. https://s.swell.life/SSJDzjuKX05wkyD

So good to hear your connection to his work and life 🌱

Sometimes when we think about the accomplishments of an individual and then they leave their legacy, sometimes in his case with books. But when my dad was passing, I remember thinking, what a wise man this was, and everything was locked inside his head still. And basically it's confounding that we can't download the brilliance of people sometimes, and it goes with them. Of course, he's in my heart. But I really felt like Jolly Carr was in your heart
