Amityville Horror: True horror or hoax? One of the most famous & shocking cases in history.

article image placeholderUploaded by @NealD
This has been a phenomenal case for many decades. People still ponder this question. Did the Lutz make this all up for publicity, for some kind of Fame, to be on TV and to receive some kind of monetary money for their story and experiences? Or did they really get a paranormal incident, chase them out of the house? No one really ever knows except for the Lutz's. Ronnie Dafio did kill his family

A listener request. Ronnie Defoe the famed son of Amityville Horror , who viscously shot and killed his family recently died. A most famous case.

Hey, Neil, I remember when this film came out, I was too young to see it then and haven't had no interest since then. I just went on Roger Ebert. Com and on Letterbox to take a look at reviews. Not a lot of fans recommending any of The Avenueville Horror movies. With that being said, I think the simplest explanation is that somehow for some reason this couple wanted to cash in and get some nice notoriety and maybe some money. Yeah

Hey Tim, thanks for the feedback, but it's quite a fascinating story and it still intrigues people to this day. And quite frankly, it's considered in a horror classic. And it's a very popular horror film among people in the horror community. It's one of other favorites. So it's a popular horror film, is considered in staple 80s horror classic. So people do enjoy the film. The original was quite scary

Hey, Neal. Yeah. So whatever you think about, if this is a hoax or not, you got to realize with the original story, you know, six people died that house and ask anybody, would you live there? The house changed owners many times over the years. After all this, the original movie was a really good film. The remake with Ryan Reynolds not so much. And the sequels not so much

These are questions that are still lingering and people are still investigating this stuff. There's whole groups and communities of people that are still trying to figure this out, like forensics or CSI agents. It's pretty interesting, but I mean, yeah, the film has a cold following. The original is fantastic, and it scared me as a kid. It's one of my favorites

Neil, I did not know about this story. So after I heard you as well, I went and looked it up and I found this link. I'm posting it. While everything could be taken one way or the other, there's this one question in this article, the answer to which made me feel that the luxury truly wanted this to be their home and that this was not something that they were doing as a temporary gain

@sudha

I do not know only the Lutz's know that, but basically it's one or the other. Did they want to sell a story or were they really experiencing paranormal? We don't know. So that's the long question. I think they wanted to start on with their family and have this as their permanent home through my research. But I don't know

@sudha

Hey, Suda, this is my part too. Also, keep in mind that the other long question that's never been answered is did Ronnie defeat get any possessed spirit enter him to create cause these horrible murders against his family? Or did or was he just mentally unstable and it's never been addressed? I know the neighbors have said that grew up around them that they've never experienced any kind of mental instability in Ronnie to feel other than drug abuse

The only other movie I can think about right now that is like Christine, where the car is a character too. But that's just something I thought that was awesome. Is the actual house itself is the killer, basically in the movie movie. So I didn't know if anybody had any thoughts on that

Super good point, Jeff. Yeah. For one, the first original film is a very scary film, especially watching it as a kid. I stumbled upon it when I was young, too, on the cable channels. Me and my brother would watch it and some friends in the neighborhood, and it scared the s*** out of us. It's a scary movie with the pig's head in the window and the demonic look of the house
