Does indie film still exist today?

article image placeholderSupport it!
So ask yourself, is that really an independent film which also starred major actors? But, yeah, that's my question for tonight. Does independent film still exist in today's film market, meaning 2020 to 2021? Well, within the last decade, do you think independent film is still irrelevant and still exists? And are there really independent films out there? Hopefully, I'll get some participation in this one. Thanks

Talking independent film . Is there such a thing in the film world today And what do you consider to be indie?

Yes

Additionally, film is starting to find its way outside of Hollywood, which is allowing people to make films on cheaper budgets because they can film in places like Vancouver. They can film in places like Atlanta. Even the big blockbusters are being filmed in Atlanta for that reason for tax purposes. But I think the heart of your question is, are there really still independent films out there? And, yeah, I don't define an independent film by how much it cost to make it

Clarification

I do have to clarify something real fast because I said that there are two aspects to what makes an independent film. I forgot to say the second one. I mean, I did kind of say it eventually, but just to clarify, I think what really Neald finds an independent film is like I already said it's made outside of the major mainstream studio system and then B it is that spirit of independent film. It's something that is very specific to the director's artistic vision

And I guess that's where I was going. I was kind of reminiscing from the people like Todd Solins, Neil Laboot, Stacy title, Kevin Smith, even Tarantino, they were just booming and people were renting their movies. And there was just such an incredible energy for independent film. But you are absolutely right. There are a lot of filmmakers today making films for very little money. And like you said, it's not really a money issue

Buddies of mine have tons of sound equipment, and I have tons of editing software. It's laziness, I think, is what's stopping a lot of people. It's all there now. It's there to be done, and people are doing it. I'm just saying that I always think back if you could have put these devices in the hands of aspiring filmmakers back then, guys who really had the passion to go out there and get it done

And don't get me wrong. I mean, there was independent film back in the early days in the 70s with John Casabides really kicked off talking independent film, is there? There was no connections and no outside resources. As far as Hollywood. And Casa, Vidi has made some amazing films on his own 100%. So I saw that in the 90s research, and I guess I'm missing that today where it's kind of popular now

You didn't really see that. That talking independent film is there taking our time having a ridiculous conversation about the janitors on the Death Star. That wasn't, like a short thing. It just kind of played out the way a conversation does. And we became accustomed to that because especially because of Pulp Fiction that really blew up The Royale with Cheese conversation. I consider a very similar thing. It didn't move the story forward in any way

And I'm listening to Hollywood Babylon Smith's podcast with Ralph Garman. And it was the week that Lisa Spoon hour from Clerks died. For whatever reason, I did not make the connection in my head. Atlantic Highlands and Smith is talking about it. And the day before, I had gone to a hardware store, and this is what triggered it for me

And I went down there and had them appraised by the guys at the Comic Book Men, and they were all in there and they appraised it for me. I didn't get on the show. I didn't make it on the show, but they appraised them for me. And it turns out that they were actually mass produced, so they weren't worth anything. But it was cool going in there, and I bought a couple of things. It's a pretty Rad comic book store

Many years ago, Danny Barnadoche from the Partridge Family was hosting a morning radio show here in the Philadelphia area, and I was in a bookstore in a mall near there, and I'm looking at a book. There's a dude standing next to me and I look over and I look back at the book, and then it hits me. I was like, was that Danny bondedu

I mean, I recommend going down there and checking it out, but yeah, I probably will go to the Quickstop one of these days and check it out, but I definitely want to join in on one of those modcasts, too. That would be really cool that Kevin Smith does. That would be awesome. And maybe ask a question. I don't know where he has them, but I definitely would go to those. I enjoyed his One Man show as well
