Hey, Swell, this is Karaan Dave on Mumbai Live Again, and I'm continuing on with today's theme, which is to speak with women who embody the spirit of triumph and perseverance and who also lead inspirational lives. My next guest guest on The Mumbai Life's. Well cast is Malaka Advani. She's a young actor, model and entrepreneur. She acted in the Netflix blockbuster film Ye Ballet and has been a passionate dancer for several years

My grandmother, who started a business 50 years ago and earned for the entire family, my mother, who continued in her footsteps and is still earning for our entire family and all the other amazing women. I know. However, at the same time, I also have a strange feeling on this day, which just is a reminder that women are not equal today in the 21st century, they are not equal to men. And the fact that we have a women's day in the first place

Thank you so much for that unique perspective on Women's Day Malacca. I think it really is remarkable how you're carrying on the work of your grandmother. And while you're still at the early stages of your career, I haven't come across someone who has managed to achieve so at such a young age. Can you tell us more about your passions and hobbies? And also, where do you seek inspiration from? You know, who are idols

I also write poetry sometimes, and it's really my way of putting all my emotions down on a pen and paper in the most beautiful way that I can try and do it. As for inspiration, I think the answer lies in the arts. Again, I find inspiration from the arts. So my first poem, the first poem that I ever wrote, was after I watched An Odyssey dance performance Odyssey is the dance from Orisa. It's a beautiful Indian classical dance

And I'm wondering, did you experience sort of anything like that where you live, or was it pretty easy for you to just get involved in the arts because it was not only something that you're really good at, but something that was acceptable and people provided you that support system that is so needed

But at the same time, I feel like everything that you spoke about and expressed that you experience in the US, I feel like you could just multiply that times ten and put it in the Indian context because in India, like art, forget about an art education being provided, and then they're cutting funds or they're not providing whatever. But in India, an art education is a concept that doesn't even exist, like it doesn't exist

What's up, Malikka? It's great to see you resurface in the swell universe. I really liked your response to Taylor and I think your mission is great. Independent artists in the film fraternity have for far too long now not been given their due. And in that context, I wanted to know from you. What do you think of the rise of OTT platforms? Is that a more empowering tool, or is there politics and hierarchy and all of the usual stuff that we witness?

It's just like you watch movies like commercial films, and the quality of the stories and stuff again, is a very typical commercial plot graph. But I think these movies that one watches on odd platforms are more they make you think more, and they're less commercial in short. So the plotlines, the stories, the acting, it's all less about what sells and more about the actual story. So that's my take on that. And as for what's up?

And I hope that all of us can come out of this in some form of I hope it doesn't take a bigger tool on our sanity than it already has. And I've been going through something similar. I think I tried doing a lot of introspection, and I feel like I'm a bit clearer about the people that I want in my life and the types of conversations that I like having

Movies I’d like to be apart of and other pandemic stuff - a lack of of conn

As for the movies, honestly speaking, I haven't watched an Indian movie in the recent past and been like, oh, my God, I wish I was a part of this project. There was only one movie which I watched in the last. Let's say, one year that has struck me on a very deep level, and I think I can speak for many when I say that. And that movie is Gully boy, Gulliboy was not just a movie. It was a movement
