I Got Summoned to Jury Duty….Again

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
Now, how it works here in Virginia is well, I guess I will say in my town in Virginia is that they send you out a questionnaire to determine if you are fit for jury duty. Meaning, are you under the age of 70? Do you have any qualifying exemptions such as physical illnesses or limitations, disabilities, any type of mental health issues that could prevent you from serving on jury duty? And then they tell you we may select you sometime in the next year to serve on jury duty

So for me, I've just been fortunate enough to kind of get out of it simply by not mailing the thing back off. But I know eventually I'm going to have to deal with it. But that's my situation

So I go ahead and turn in the questionnaire, because I'm not really trying to find out what could happen if I don't. But hopefully, you'll never have to do it. I know they say that it's a wonderful civic duty and it's an honor and a privilege, but they can miss me with the honor and privilege part. If they never asked me to participate in another jury, I would not care whatsoever. But hopefully you'll never have to do it

I've been called for jury duty twice. Well, nope, take that back three times. The first time I was in college and the process for the state I'm in is similar to what you have described in terms of where you are calling, the number the day before, so on and so forth. But when you first are summoned for jury duty, there's instructions of criteria, so to speak, that you can call in advance and be excused by the clerk

So I wish we had more flexibility. It sounds like your state has more flexibility than ours. I wish we had that kind of flexibility, but we don't. It's like jury duty. Now, the election might be an exception because that's also a civil duty that I have to perform
